Buying a new laptop is a big decision. It's a sizable chunk of change, but right now there are some good deals to be found during Amazon's Prime Day sale. Still, there are a ton of different models, chip configurations, screen sizes, and other specs to choose from. To help you decide, we hunted through the deals at Amazon and other competing retailers.

Google Pixelbook Go for $1,199 ($200 off): The Pixelbook Go is one of our favorite Chromebooks. It’s lightweight at 2 pounds, has a fantastic keyboard, and the battery easily lasts through a full day of work. The deal is on the high-end model, which gets you an Intel Core i7 with 16 gigabytes of RAM and a 256-gigabyte hard drive—enough power to really make Google's lightweight ChromeOS sing.

Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 13 for $939 ($61 off): It's not a huge savings, but the Galaxy Chromebook (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is currently our favorite luxury Chromebook. The solid, lightweight aluminum body has a build quality that surpasses most of the Windows laptops I've tested, and it has the nicest (4K!) display of any Chromebook you can buy.

Razer Blade 15 for $1,300 ($300 off): Razer's name is synonymous with gaming, but its machines are powerful for pro-grade tasks, too. This is one of the company's budget models. It's still powerful though, with an Intel i7 chip, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 graphics card, 18-gigabytes of RAM, a 256-gigabyte SSD, and a 15.6-inch Full HD 144-Hz display.

Lenovo Legion Y540 for $1,079 at Target ($420 off): Want a gaming machine without breaking the bank? The Legion Y540 offers ninth-generation Intel chips, Nvidia GeForce graphics, and up to 16 gigabytes of RAM. All that fits in an attractively slim package with a 15-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS screen that has a 144-Hz refresh rate.

Acer Spin 5 Convertible Laptop for $900 ($200 off): The best thing about the 13-inch Acer Spin is the 2,256 x 1,504 IPS display. It's wonderfully bright and sharp. This one also packs a good amount of power for this price. It's got a 10th-generation Intel Core i7 chip, 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a 512-gigabyte SSD. It also supports the nascent Wi-Fi 6 standard. -
Dell XPS 15 for $1,529 ($120 off):Dell's XPS 15 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is a great Windows alternative to high-end MacBooks. The tiny bezels and massive 4K screen look amazing. It also has a large, responsive trackpad. This deal is not the latest model, but the only real difference is the 9th-generation Intel chip (versus 10th-gen in newer one). This configuration also has the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card, 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a 256-gigabyte SSD.
Deals on Mid-Range Laptops
If you're not editing video, gaming, or otherwise maxing out your hardware, these cheaper laptops are good options.

LG Gram for $900 ($300 off): LG is best known for its TVs and appliances, but it also makes one of the smallest, lightest laptops on the market. It shares many of the best qualities of Dell's XPS 13 in that it's thin, light, and has great battery life. There's no 4K screen, but LG does manage to pack in more ports. You get two USB-A ports, one USB-C, a MicroSD card slot, and even HDMI. This model features a 10th-generation Intel Core i5 chip, 8 gigabytes of RAM, and a 512-gigabyte SSD.

Acer Chromebook 714 for $540 ($60 off): Acer's Chromebook 714 has an 8th-generation Core i3 chip, which is more powerful than Celeron or Mediatek-based Chromebooks. The display isn't the best, but you do get 8 gigabytes of RAM and a 64-gigabyte SSD. It's not amazing value these days, but it's still a good machine.

HP Pavilion 15T for $750 ($250 off) at HP: The HP Pavilion isn't the most exciting laptop on the market, but it'll get the job done. This model has a 10th-generation Intel i7 processor, Intel Iris graphics, 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a 512-gigabyte SSD. Be sure to opt for the IPS 1920 x 1080 touch screen as the other screen options are dismal. Also, note that this model won't ship until November 11.

HP Pavilion x360 for $646 ($95 off):This 14-inch 2-in-1 comes with a 10th-generation Intel Core i5, 8 gigabytes of RAM, and a 512-gigabyte SSD. The thin side bezels and sharp, bright display give this machine a more premium feel. Battery life isn't the best though (8-9 hours depending on use).

LG 34-Inch Ultrawide Monitor for $450 ($100 off): An external monitor is nice sometimes. Several of the writers on WIRED's Gear team use ultrawide monitors with 21:9 aspect ratios because they're better for multitasking. They're wide enough to fit two sizable browsers side-by-side, effectively getting you close to the real estate of two computer monitors for one. This one has a high resolution with a high refresh rate and low latency. It's HDR10 compatible too for a more color-accurate movie-watching experience.
