What Specs to Look for in a PC

For general use, try to get a laptop with at least a 9th-generation Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 processor, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage (preferably a solid-state drive, also called SSD), and at least a 13-inch display that's close to HD (1080p). For gaming, video editing, or other power-hungry tasks, aim for an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processor with 16 gigabytes of RAM and a dedicated graphics card by Nvidia or AMD.

Mid-Range Laptop Deals

HP Envy 13T 13-inch for $600 ($200 off)

HP Store

Specs: Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

The 13-inch Envy, paired in this config with a 11th-generation Intel i5 processor and 8 gigabytes of RAM, is one of my favorite mid-range laptops. It's a no-frills machine, but it will handle typical tasks like browsing the web, editing documents, and even editing photos.

Lenovo Yoga C740 for $660 ($162 off)

Amazon ($638), Walmart

Specs: Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

The Lenovo Yoga C740 does a good job of straddling the line between work machine and home machine, making it ideal for these times. The 2-in-1 design allows for laptop use during the day, entertainment center in the evening.

Lenovo Thinkpad X13 for $626 ($512 off)

Lenovo Store (Enter THINKBFSALE at Checkout)

Specs: AMD Ryzen 5 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD

This X13 features AMD Ryzen chips. The base model uses a Ryzen 3, but the deal we have in mind is the Ryzen 5. Click the "customize" button to add the Ryzen 5 and upgrade the screen to the HD (1080p) IPS display. That brings the total to $725. Still a good deal on a much nicer machine. For an extra $150 you can double the RAM to 16 gigabytes, which is well worth it if you can swing it since the X13 RAM is soldered on, and not user-upgradable. Use the coupon THINKBFSALE to get the deal.

Dell XPS 13 (2019) for $700 ($300 off)

Dell Store

Specs: Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

This is possibly the lowest price we've seen on an XPS 13. It is the Intel i5 chip, so it won't have quite the power of more expensive configurations, but for web browsing, editing documents, even photo editing, it should be plenty fast enough. If you do need more power in an XPS 13, see the deal below.

Dell XPS 13 (2019) for $900 ($250 off)

Specs: Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, 4K Screen

This deal is for the previous XPS 13 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) so it lacks the edge-to-edge 16:10 display of the 2020 model, but it's still a very capable laptop. This model features a 10th-generation Intel i7 chip and the 1080p screen.

Microsoft Surface Deals

Surface Pro 7 With Type Cover for $800 ($350 off)

Microsoft Store

Specs: Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD

The Surface Pro 7 is one of our favorite laptop-tablet hybrids (8/10, WIRED Recommends). There are cheaper Surfaces, but this is a good price on the best hybrid model. It comes with a keyboard and sleeve. Be sure to grab the pen if you want to use tablet mode for notes or drawing.

★ Surface Laptop 3 for $800 ($200 off)

Microsoft Store

Specs: Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD

The Surface Laptop is a premium piece of Windows hardware (7/10, WIRED Review). The all-aluminum construction makes for a lightweight machine, and the 3:2 ratio screen is wider than normal, giving you extra room for working on documents side-by-side. We tested the 15-inch model, and this sale is for the 13-inch, but aside from size they're very similar. Be sure to check every color, there are better deals on some colors than others.

Surface Laptop Go for $800 ($100 off)

Microsoft Store

Specs: Intel Core i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

The new Surface Laptop Go (7/10 WIRED Review) is a great little machine. The screen isn't the best, but if you can live with it, this is one of the most portable, dare I say fun, laptops I've tried this year.

Powerful Laptop Deals

Dell XPS 15 (2019) for $1,549 ($350 off)

Dell Store

Specs: Intel Core i7 CPU, GeForce GPU, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD

The 15-inch XPS isn't as svelte and portable as the 13-inch, but along with the larger, heavier form factor comes a discrete video card (Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1650, 4GB) and 32-gigabytes of RAM. The 2020 XPS 15 impressed me (8/10, WIRED Recommends), but that was with the 4K screen. I have not tested the 1080p screen found in this deal. There's also a cheaper version available with 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage for $1,349.

HP Spectre X360 13 for $950 ($420 off)

HP Store

Specs: Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

This 13-inch convertible from HP offers Intel's latest 11th-generation i7 chip with the new Iris integrated graphics that should give the i7 series a speed boost even without a dedicated graphics card. That's been my experience, so far anyway. I have not tested this precise model, but it should be able to handle most anything you throw at it, short of more graphics-intensive games.

LG Gram Laptop for $1,430 ($170 off)

Amazon, Walmart, B&H ($1,247)

Specs: Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

LG is best known for its TVs and appliances, but it also makes one of the smallest, lightest laptops on the market. It shares many of the best qualities of Dell's XPS 13 in that it's thin, light, and has great battery life. There's no 4K screen, but LG does manage to pack in more ports. You get two USB-A ports, one USB-C, a MicroSD card slot, and even HDMI.

Asus ZenBook 15 for $1,200 ($400 off)

Specs: Intel Core i7, GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

Asus's ZenBook 15 puts a lot of power in a very thin, lightweight body. This deal features a 4K screen, 10th-generation Core i7 chip, Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card (which makes this a capable gaming machine), and 16 gigabytes of RAM, all in a body that weighs under four pounds.

Dell Precision 3551 for $1,340 ($580 off)

Dell Store

Specs: Intel Core i5, Nvidia Quadro (4 GB), 8 GB RAM, 356 GB SSD

Dell's Precision 3551 is a 15-inch laptop with plenty of power. You'd never use the word svelte for this beast, but you get a huge keyboard (with number pad) and a 15-inch 1080p display. It can be configured with up to 16-gigabytes of RAM, and comes with an Nvidia Quadro graphics card. This deal features models with 9th-generation i5 or i7 chips, but the newer model with 10th-generation chips is also on sale.

MacBook Deals

It's a strange time to buy a Mac. The new Apple-designed M1 chips just launched, which bring a host of changes to the MacOS platform. Read our review for details. Intel-based Macs make up the bulk of the MacBook deals you'll see this weekend. They're still a good buy, but we have reservations about how long Apple will support them going forward.

★ MacBook Air (2020) for $900 ($100 off)

Specs: Apple's new M1 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

The brand new MacBook Air (9/10, WIRED Recommands) is already on sale. It features Apple's custom-designed M1 chip which delivers great performance, even running Rosetta apps. The battery life is outstanding, easily lasting more than a full workday.

MacBook Pro 13-Inch for $1,300 ($200 off)

Amazon, B&H ($1,400)

Specs: Apple's new M1 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

The new MacBook Pro is also on sale. This is the 2020 model with Apple's custom-designed M1 chip (we love the new Air). The discount isn't huge, but it's better than nothing. If the brand-new MacBooks were on your radar, here's a chance to save a few bucks.

MacBook Pro 16-Inch for $2,099 ($300 off)

Amazon, B&H

Specs: Intel Core i7 CPU, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

This deal is for Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro (8/10, WIRED Recommends), which packs a good bit of power in a still portable body. The two downsides are the price and the battery life.

MacBook Air (Early 2020) for $869 ($140 off)

B&H, Walmart ($889)

Specs: Intel Core i3 CPU, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

This is the previous model Air, which was released in spring of 2020, and the Intel-powered internals still make for a great laptop. As we say above, if you have the extra money we recommend the new Air as it's more powerful, has longer battery life, and is silent. You'll also get better support from Apple going forward.

Chromebook Deals

Chromebooks aren't for everyone, but if you spend all day in a web browser, use Google apps, and don't need all the rest of the stuff that comes with Apple's MacOS or Microsoft Windows, Google's ChromeOS might fit the bill. Be sure to read through our guide to the best Chromebooks for an overview of what to look for in a Chromebook.

★ Asus Flip C434 2-In-1 Chromebook for $486 ($84 off)

Specs: Intel Core M3 CPU, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD

Out of all the Chromebooks I've tested, the Asus Chromebook Flip C434 strikes the best balance between price, power, and features, especially at this price. Its 2-in-1 design easily moves between laptop mode for work, stand mode (great for watching YouTube), and tablet mode for browsing the web on the couch. The 14-inch, 1080p display is plenty bright and sharp, giving you somewhat of a rarity in Chromebooks—a nice screen and all-day battery life.

HP Chromebook X360 for $400 ($220 off)

HP Store, Amazon ($480)

Specs: Intel Core i3, 8 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD

At this price HP's x360 Chromebook is one of the best Chromebook values around. The Intel i3 chip adds a little extra power—helpful on sites like Google Docs or Gmail—and the 8-gigabytes of RAM with stop ChromeOS from slowing down.

★ Luxury Pick—Samsung 13-Inch Galaxy Chromebook for $799 ($200 off)

Samsung Store, Best Buy

Specs: Intel Core i5 10th Gen. CPU, 8 GB RAM, 4K Touch Display, 256 GB SSD

There aren't a lot of you out there who are excited to spend north of $500 on a Chromebook, but if you do want the best experience Chrome has to offer, this Samsung model is it (8/10, WIRED Recommends). It's just a little over 2 lbs, only 10 mm thick, and has a gorgeous 4K AMOLED touchscreen that can bend over backward onto itself like a Lenovo Yoga laptop. Perks include a built-in stylus and fingerprint sensor, and the specs are impressive for any laptop. It made our list of Best Chromebooks.

Gaming Laptop Deals

Check out our guide to the best video game deals for Cyber Monday.

HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop for $600 ($100 off)

HP Store

Specs: Intel Core i5 CPU, GTX 1050 GPU, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD

Dell G5 15-inch for $850 ($200 off)

Best Buy

Specs: AMD Ryzen 7, Radeon RX 5600M GPU, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

This bargain gaming rig pairs one of AMD's fastest chips with the Radeon RX 5600 graphics card. Combine that with the 15-inch screen, which has a 144 Hz refresh rate, and you should be good to go with even the most graphically-demanding games. Dell also has the same machine, but with an Intel chip and Nvidia graphics on sale for $900 ($140 off).

Razer Blade 15 15.6-Inch for $1,450 ($250 off)

Amazon, Razer Store ($1,549), B&H

Specs: Intel Core i7 10th Gen. CPU, RTX 260 GPU, 120 Hz HD Display, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

The Razer Blade 15 continues to top our list of the Best Gaming Laptops. It has everything you need in a gaming laptop, including a fairly thin and light frame, and a display with a quick enough refresh rate to handle 120 fps when you're playing.

MSI GS65 Stealth Gaming Laptop for $2,200 ($800 off)

Specs: Intel Core i7, GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q, 32 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD

MSI's Stealth is ready for today's high resolution games with Nvidia's RTX 2080 Max-Q graphics card and a 240 Hz screen refresh rate. The chip is only a 9th-generation i7, but that should be plenty powerful for most gaming needs.

Asus ROG Strix Scar III for $1,850 ($350 off)

Amazon, B&H ($1,900)

Specs: Intel Core i7 CPU, RTX 2070 Super GPU, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD

Deals on Accessories

LG 34-Inch Ultra Wide Full HD Monitor for $330 ($50 off)

Amazon ($327), Best Buy, Adorama

Reviews editor Jeffrey Van Camp recommends (and uses) this monitor from LG, which has a 2,560 x 1,080 pixel resolution, HDMI and DisplayPort inputs, and a speedy response time that makes it good for gaming. Ultrawide monitors open up new worlds of multitasking, letting you run two full-size browser windows side-by-side (or another application), which is why several members of the Gear team have one.

Dell UltraSharp 27-Inch LED Monitor for $356 ($244 off)

Amazon, Walmart ($359)

This 27-inch monitor has a 1440p screen (2560×1440 pixels) is a favorite of Gear Team's Parker Hall. At 3,440 x 1,440 resolution it's plenty sharp, though the 60 Hz refresh rate might not be the best for graphics intensive games. It has plenty of ports, including a power port that can handle 90 Watts.

Samsung 27-Inch Curved HD G-Sync Monitor for $280 ($120 off)

Walmart, Best Buy, B&H ($249)

This Samsung 27-inch 1080p gaming monitor has G-Sync compatibility, which means less screen tearing with Nvidia graphics cards. It'll run at 240 Hz without breaking a sweat. Downsides: No speakers or USB ports built-in.

Logitech G513 Mechanical Keyboard for $100 ($30 off)

Best Buy, Newegg

Anker products are reliable and inexpensive, and this dock is no exception. If your laptop is lacking ports, this is your friend. Plug in the USB-C cable and you'll expand your port access to include two USB-A inputs, an Ethernet port, MicroSD and SD card readers, an HDMI port for an external monitor, and a USB-C charger that can juice up your laptop as well (60 watt power delivery).

Western Digital 8 TB External Hard Drive for $145 ($65 off)

Amazon, Best Buy

If you need some serious storage space for gigabytes of data, be it video clips, large photo libraries, or a robust backup system, this 8-gigabyte drive works well. I have a 4-year-old version of the 4-gigabyte model and have been very happy with it.

SanDisk 128 GB MicroSD Card for $15 ($4 off)

MicroSD cards aren't expensive anymore, but if you do need to pick one up, they're slightly cheaper. Many laptops have a slot for a full-size or small card, but getting the smaller size also makes it possible to use in a phone or Nintendo Switch down the line, if you wish. It comes with a full-size SD adapter, too.

Lexar 128 GB USB Thumb Drive for $19 ($5 off)

Much like SD cards, you probably own a good flash drive by now, but if you are in need, they are a tad cheaper this weekend. This Lexar is extra small and uses the larger USB A format. If you have a newer laptop, you might want a good USB C flash drive ($23). This SanDisk USB + Lightning drive ($34) also connects to iPhone.

Moft Laptop Stand for $24 ($6 off)

Amazon (Click the Coupon Button)

This is the smallest, slimmest laptop stand that Moft makes. Slap it on the bottom of your laptop and you'll be able to adjust the keyboard height to two different levels—especially important if you tend to crane your neck when looking at the screen. Read our Best Laptop Stands for more options.
